Penumbral Lunar Eclipse 11.47 UTC
On March 20th the Sun enters the first degree of Aries heralding the Vernal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere as well as marking the first day of the astrological New Year. After the previous New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Pisces we have arrived at a natural ending of a life cycle, and like the rebirth effect of spring we sense a liberation from all that has been released with the promise of warmth and abundance ahead. The new seed of this current lunar and eclipse cycle holds great potential for dissolving duality, envisioning and transforming our reality as well as resolving any imbalances in our relationships. Lunar eclipses in astrology are relationship-oriented as is the Sun and Moons polarity on the Aries- Libra axis during this upcoming Full Moon. The Lunar Eclipse may influence a severing of relationship, but more often it acts as a catalyst in bringing partners closer together with a sudden awareness of their greater need for each other. It may also elicit awareness of anything lacking in our lives, with much consideration now for the relationship of our soul to our physical body, our work and service to others, to Earth and her natural rhythm, and our divine connection with Spirit.
The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse culminates on March 23rd in the diplomatic sign of Libra. This is an energetic invitation to resolve any inequality in our relationships as well as reestablishing balance, alignment and moderation in all aspects of life. Libra ruled by Venus desires the alliance of a ‘marriage’. With the Sun in Aries opposing the Moon in Libra tension arises between the ‘self’ and the ‘other’ with the emphasis on shared experiences, cooperation and concession, and the likelihood of an undoing of purely selfish motives. It urges us to strike a balance between tending to the needs of the ‘marriage’ while also meeting our personal needs with that of the other. Now is the time to address aspects of a partnership that have become too one sided or where polarity threatens the relationship stasis. With Mercury exact conjunct the Sun it’s time to mediate and talk things out and then set about reconfiguring our role. Mars in Sagittarius lends his warrior energy towards boldly and honestly communicating personal beliefs, morals and ethics while courageously balancing his autonomy with any compromise needed for better relations. There is a chance here that those who have become over dependent on another will understand the need now for more independence and self reliance, while others who have avoided dependency may feel drawn towards greater connectivity and reliance on their partner. All relationships are now given the chance to grow more interdependent and unified based on a heightened level of consciousness that emerged with the New Moon in Pisces. The equilibrium will look and feel different for every couple and flow towards their highest expression in relationship with themselves, each other and with Spirit.
In respect to this we would do well to consider the ongoing Uranus- Pluto square and the tremendous pressure this has placed on restructuring the partnership module. This challenge continues the reformation process in compliance with natural and divine law, not just human law. During this powerful eclipse cycle our focus has shifted from primal needs and ego driven motives towards a more conscious spiritual soul expression of love.
For decades now the media, film and pornography industry as well as religious and educational establishments have all been influential in giving us guidelines as to how our partnerships should look and the gender roles we enact within them. Needless to say much of our social conditioning contains many falsehoods that disempower and desecrate the sacred union of lovers. Under the influence of the Libra Full Moon we have the chance to weigh out each other’s strengths and weaknesses and join forces to create an organic working, living, balance of coupledom. This applies to political and business partnerships as well as marriages of any kind. True partners assert their willingness to support and help the other especially where one is lacking in strength or know how. The power of a complimentary pair invariably becomes greater than the power of one.
Jupiter and Saturn form their second exact square on the Full Moon Eclipse, together with the ongoing planetary and node oppositions on the Virgo -Pisces axis, plus the many other square aspects above makes this a critical lunar cycle for supporting a break through in old patterns of behavior and addictions upheld by beliefs that have sabotaged our growth and potential and kept us wounded, separate or biased in all accounts. Perhaps this relates to how well you have maintained your health, or how far you’ve travelled on your spiritual path and found outlets to express your souls potential. It’s time to bridge all the gaps of separation, especially if you lack a true soul connection with another, or with this planet and Divine Spirit. It’s also important to witness any lack of space, especially with a person or thing you feel your very life depends upon. Consider too any over identification with being wounded, with past and continuing suffering, and of being made victim or martyr at the hands of another. The ego holds on tight to these injustices and once internalized becomes synonymous with the personality masking the souls authenticity. These issues of abandonment, victimization, separation, pain and suffering will continue to arise from the deep urging us to purge, forgive and release.
On March 25th Venus will make an exact square to Saturn- now retrograde until August, making Venus pivotal then in personalizing this crisis point with Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron. This is an opportunity to feel out any delusions, false beliefs and questionable ethics concerning who and what we love, how we pleasure ourselves, the value on money and material possessions and how all or any of these things validate or negate our self worth. Venus is coming from her deepest most spiritual place and needs to have faith in all that is ending and about to begin. The divine feminine must let go while the sacred masculine must develop patience rather than speed on ahead alone. They both have the power now to see through any denial or deception that has had them faltering from healthy authentic union. Venus beckons us to open up our boundaries to allow for more light and feeling- for the spiritual dimension to filter through all our daily tasks, through our work, our love making, our creating and our adventuring. Mars can actively support her with his truth seeking and soldiering forward towards new horizons. This is a great lunar cycle to explore new realms with your partner uplifting you both beyond the familiar and the banal to transcend into the mystery. Come together and work it out.
The intense planetary energy in Pisces throughout this lunar cycle may have had a dizzying, grieving or isolating effect. Once Mercury joins the Sun in Aries on March 22nd clarity will return, and the emotional chaos will diminish as the fire rekindles within. The previous weeks of amorphous thoughts will continue to shift into form and bring great reveries for the planning of the future. If a tsunami of feelings still has you swept away continue to practice floating, swimming and surfing until you are ready to come to shore. Once you sense the ground beneath your feet, stand up stronger and more unified than ever before. Believe what is true not false, love what is real and not fantasy, follow what truly inspires instead of where you have been lead, and onward and upward we shall go…
“But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.”
– Kahil Gibran – “on Marriage” from “The Prophet”
